Mark serves in a Senior leadership capacity in Turner’s Central US Region. In this role Mark will support and provide Sr. Leadership to an average of $2 Billion in Construction annually. Prior to his regional role he served 5 years as the Vice President and General Manager of Kansas City and Denver offices, which serves the seven-state region of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. In this role, Mark oversees more than $1 billion in construction annually.

Mark joined Turner’s Cleveland office as a Field Engineer on the University Hospital Ambulatory Care Facility in 1983. After relocating to Chicago in 1985, he held engineering positions on two commercial high-rise projects prior to being named Manager of Procurement. Mark then served as Branch Manager for the Arlington Heights office, Manager of Business Development for the Chicago office, and Director of the K-12 education group before being promoted to Vice President in 2003. He then became General Manager of Chicago’s Special Projects Division.

The Commercial Real Estate Revolution

Mark co-authored a book, published in 2009, titled The Commercial Real Estate Revolution, which introduces key principles of the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach. The authors are members of the Mindshift consortium—a group of top commercial real estate industry leaders who are fed up with a system that simply doesn’t work. These executives offer a manifesto for removing deep seated waste and restoring trust. Mindshift received the 2009 CoreNet Global Innovator’s Award.

Integrated Project Delivery is a project delivery method distinguished by a contractual agreement between a minimum of the owner, design professional, and builder where risk and reward are shared and stakeholder success is dependent on project success. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is defined by the following characteristics:

Early Involvement of Key Participants, Shared Risk and Reward, Multi-Party Contract, Collaborative Decision making and control, Liability Waivers among key participants, and Joint Developed and Validated Project Goals.

NOTABLE PROJECTS

  • 2 Prudential Plaza, Chicago, IL
    • 64-story addition to the existing 46-story Prudential Plaza building. Two Prudential Plaza consists of 5 levels below grade, 59 stories of high-strength concrete and 5 levels of ornamental structural steel and reflective glass with 1,525,000 SF. Two Prudential Plaza is used as commercial office space and retail on the concourse level. 
  • 633 North St. Clair, Chicago, IL
    • 28- story, 650,000 SF office tower building with underground parking to accommodate 52 cars.
  • 121 West Chestnut, Chicago, IL
    • 37-story apartment building with six levels of parking above grade and 230 one to three-bedroom apartment units between the 6th and 36th levels. The project was approximately 330,000 SF.
  • Facebook Data Centers
    • Executive leadership oversight for the Facebook data centers in Iowa and Omaha.  During Mark’s 5 year’s he completed over 4.2 Million SF of new Data Center work with a construction revenue of $2.8 Billion.

Motorola

Executive oversight of Motorola’s national building program in multi-state regions encompassing 10 projects per year with a $425M annual spend.

Haworth

Executive oversight of Haworth’s national building program encompassing three projects per year with $6M annual spend.

Deloitte

Executive oversight of Deloitte’s regional building program encompassing five projects worth $50M over three years.

Branch Banks

Executive oversight of regional programs for Harris Bank, JPM Chase, PNC Bank, TD Bank and Bank of America.
